Advocates warn of 'barbaric anti-abortion bill' being debated in state legislature
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — South Carolina doctors, nurses and abortion-rights advocates warned Friday that a bill advancing in the Republican-led Legislature could deepen the state’s maternal health care shortages and further restrict abortion access.
The event was held on Friday morning at the Charleston County Democratic Party headquarters and hosted by Americans for Contraception. Organizers said the news conference and health care briefing was intended to educate the public about what they described as the dangers of Senate Bill 1095.
Speakers included Tiffany Spann-Wilder, pediatrician and U.S. Senate candidate Annie Andrews, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic public affairs director Vicki Ringer, registered nurse Jenna Arsenault and certified nurse midwife Lesley Rathbun.
